2023 in Review

The past year has been one of growth, change, and upward momentum at New South Home. We’ve grown into a new office building and design studio, expanded our team, won awards, and best of all, had a full year of partnering with our clients to design their dream homes.

Here’s a look back at some of our favorite highlights from 2023.

Places and Spaces

In July, we moved 2 blocks from our previous office into a historic home that reflects our quintessential Southern style. Situated in the heart of Downtown Matthews, the home was built in 1880 by the Funderburk family. Forty years later, the house was moved across the street to its current location on logs pulled by donkeys with the 100 year old hardwood floors that are still in the home today.

When clients come in to meet with our team, they experience the special touches that we’ve been adding, including Fabricut draperies, Thibaut wallpaper, new decorative lighting, and our signature New South Home blue tones throughout. We are thrilled to work in our new resource room with custom cabinetry containing our samples of fabrics, rugs, wallpaper, and tile so our clients can see and feel their selections while we’re in the design process.

Awards and Accolades

We were humbled and proud to win several awards this year on both local and national levels:

Charlotte Magazine’s Best of the Best Award – Best Interior Design Firm
-Interior Design Society Runner-Up for Full Home Design for our Sullivan’s Island Project
-MAME Award for Best Interior Merchandising of a Model Home with Copper Builders

From Custom Homes to Sorority Houses

At New South Home, we believe in making your home yours, no matter where that home may be.

Over the course of 2023, we:
-Designed and delivered 120 rooms in 39 houses, which included bedrooms, piano rooms, sculleries, kitchens, and meeting rooms.
-Worked with 11 returning clients who invited us back into their homes for additional phases of their projects.
-Partnered with clients and builders to design 7 custom homes.
-Designed 4 sorority houses with Alpha Chi Omega from Clemson to Chapel Hill.
-Designed 4 model homes with Hopper Communities in Charlotte and Austin, TX

Internal Operations

One of our biggest undertakings of the year has been updating and improving our internal systems and drafting an operations manual to fine tune our design process and procedures.

It takes a lot of dedication to make our business run behind the scenes, and each of our seven team members contribute to our company’s success by serving our clients every day.

And speaking of team members: we added two new people to our team this year! Dianna Muto joined us as Operations Manager, bringing 10 years of interior design and project management experience with her. Candace Sykes was added as Marketing Manager in October, with over 12 years of marketing and communications experience.

Our designer, Ashley, welcomed her second baby, Hank, in May, and we’re lucky to have her back this Fall designing while she balances her role as a new working mom of two.

We’re so proud of the work we’re able to do and the relationships we build with our team members and clients every day. Here’s to an even bigger and better 2024!
